Okay, you guys. I know why you’re here. You like sewing, and you’re interested in learning more about different patterns, fabrics, shops, and trends. You probably found me from my Instagram account. Or maybe you’re really interested in Project #SewMyStyle and you want to join in on the fun! You’re here and you’re reading about me and what I’ve made. And maybe — just maybe — you’re thinking “Hey. I kinda want to do this too.” You want to share your sewing.
But here’s the thing: you’re not sure how. And let me tell you, the Pinterest bloggers that tell you how to start a blog? Yeah, they’re not telling you how to start a sewing blog. They’ve got some great advice, but it’s not sewing blog specific. You need some Sewing Blog 101!
I’ve made an Instagram. I’ve made a blog. I’ve introduced affiliate links and sponsored giveaways. I’ve read the blog posts and the pins, watched the videos, and listened to the podcasts, and although I’m still learning, I want to share that knowledge with you. Hello, yes, I am a librarian.
Anyways, this post is really just to say that every Monday for the next couple of months, I’m going to be sharing some articles about what I’ve learned about having a sewing blog so far. I’m by no means an expert — I’m really learning right alongside you. But I think my experiences so far are worth sharing.
I don’t think you have to spend a ton of money, either. I want to show you how to grow your blog on a budget. There are definitely services out there that will save you time as you grow (and we’ll talk about those!) but I want to get you as far as you can with as little spending as possible. There are a couple things I think you absolutely need to spend on (a domain name), and that you should spend on (a Skillshare account), but mostly this is DIY, folks. A lot of posts will include links to podcasts, articles, and videos that I find helpful, and you can also find these resources on my Pinterest page.
I’ll be posting about everything from Instagram analytics to web hosting to affiliate marketing over the next few months. If you have a specific question or interest, I’d love to know so I can focus on it in a post! You can let me know in an email to hello [at] maddiemadethis . com. Just remove spaces and insert symbols to make it look like a real email address ;). I can’t wait to share this journey with you guys, and help you share your sewing on social media channels of your own!
